Multicultural Resources Working Party of the British Dietetic Association Renal Nutrition Group

London
The Multicultural Resources Working Party of the British Dietetic Association Renal Nutrition Group (BDA-RNG) consists of 7 NHS renal dietitians within the South of England who have developed a set of 4 international award-winning resources aimed at kidney patients of black and minority ethnic (BAME) origin. The team were nominated as kidney disease is common within the BAME groups but nationally there was a lack of dietary resources focussing on the foods consumed by BAME groups. This project has helped reduced the health inequalities BAME groups face by providing information on how to adapt the diet based on the foods commonly consumed by those of BAME origin. 70% of patients who used the resources felt they learnt something new that previous resources hadn't covered. The tailored resources are available for free to patients across the UK in English and 6 other languages.
Nominated by Helen Hayes MP
This year we have had the starkest of reminders of the healthcare inequalities facing black, Asian and minority ethnic people in many of our communities. The British Dietic Association’s project is vitally important providing tailored guidance on how to maintain a healthy diet for people from all backgrounds, and I congratulate the team on this well deserved award.
